This is not a commercial water, and to ensure there is no pressure on our fish, the lake is only available for a limited number of weeks a year, so bookings are of a premium. We do this to keep the stock in prime condition with less stress. The lake is spring-fed, tree lined and has a clay bed.
The carp are productive all year round and this is predominantly a daytime fishery. Chanteboeuf caters for two anglers with exclusive use of the lake and chalet. We have bedspoke cabins, fully insulated and lined to replace the need for bivvies, and all this is set in a tranquil and exclusive venue designed for the experienced angler who is looking for a relaxing holiday with exceptional fishing.
Chanteboeuf is an extremely well kept lake of 3 acres. It has never been run as commercial water and only allows anglers a selected few weeks a Year. This means that you the angler Get the very best in exclusivity and experience. That you are one of a small select group of anglers able to fish for these amazing Carp and for you and your family/guests to enjoy the stunning property and grounds that are just yours for your stay with us.
The fish are very hard fighting and can take over an hour to get to the net – and that doesn’t mean they are even ready to be netted then. Please see the Discovery Episode of Pursuit at Chantebeouf if that sounds unlikely… Please play the fish out and do not bully them. Our rules are there for the safety of the carp at all times, and our aim is to maintain a high standard of stunning fish in pristine form for you to come and catch again in future years when they are even bigger.
Please read through our rules and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. All our rules are solely to protect the fish. We supply all tackle to hire which is of the highest standard and serviced each week. We supply a maximum of 2 3/4 lb test curve rods as these are the perfect players rod and provide the best balance. We have a vast array of the top brand rods, reels and kit.
This water is intimate and doesn’t need hardcore distance tactics and the angling experience is that much better for it. You don’t need casting machines – this is a fisherman’s water with very big, very hard fighting Carp and the best way to play them is not with heavy kit, broom handle style rods etc. The tackle and rods are balanced to suit the style and size of the fishery, to offer you the best sport and to ensure a minimum of fish pulls and damage to the fish.
We reserve the right to check your tackle/rigs/set up at any time. Please make sure your entire party know our rules. A maximum of 2.75lb test curve rods only. Wide wide gape hooks between size 6 & 8 only. We advise you use known brand names hooks. We do have hooks and terminal tackle on site that can be bought at cost – we add nothing to the prices.

Rules & Guidelines
- All fish are to be unhooked, weighed and photographed in the water (due to the safety of these stunning big fish, they must be unhooked, weighed and photographed as quickly as possible, using only one camera & not various cameras)
- You must hold fish very low to mat and photo one side only
- Do not stand fish up on its belly
- Please remove any watches/bracelets (or any items which may cause damage to the fish)
- Only bait purchased on site to be used (we make no profit on bait, but know the nutritional value in the baits we have for sale which is paramount to the health and growth of the carp – plus it’s what we feed them so they know it’s a tasty, usually hook free and healthy food source.)
- No plastic or artificial bait to be used.
- Fishing from designated swims only.
- A two rod limit per angler (max if two people fishing in your party at any one time)
- No surface fishing.
- No zig rigs.
- Mono mainline only – no fluorocarbon as main line.
- No coated braid only – not stripped.
- A minimum hooklink of 15lb.
- Minimum main line breaking strain of 15lb.
- No nuts or particles of any kind.
- Fish must be rested in weigh sling before release
- No lead-core or safe zone leader.
- Anglers must use tubing – minimum 24ins (2ft).
- Forceps and antiseptic cream must be kept close by at all times.
- Please use antisceptic cream after every catch.
- Never leave rods unattended.
- No swimming in the lake or stock pond.
- All nets and mats will be supplied
