Notes from the owners…

Graham Harman

I had been looking to add a further lake to my other venue Etang Meunier and hadn’t found anything close to what I was looking for. Then I entered through the gates at Chantebeouf and knew I’d found it.  It was like walking into a fisherman’s paradise with the tree fringed lake, a luxury house at the lake’s edge and beautiful landscaped grounds. The icing on the cake was finding out that the size of carp in the lake were incredible.

I wanted something that had the best of both worlds and offered everything that an angler would want in an exclusive angling holiday. I wanted a high standard of accommodation, stunning location, exclusivity, amazing fish and fishing. I wanted a place that ticked all of the boxes with the angler but what was really  important to me was the overall experience. Like myself, with a family and work commitments, lots of anglers get very limited time to fish so I wanted to give them an experience that they would remember and want to come back year after year and I certainly think that Chanteboeuf does that.

“We came and filmed at Chantebeouf last year and within minutes of driving through the gates we had fallen in love with the place. I knew that Rob Hughes had fished and filmed there for BT Sport and we needed to get a few big hard fighting fish on a scenic lake for our new Discovery TV series. With a tight schedule I knew Chantebeouf would be the place to go. We were up against it due to time and deadlines so I needed to catch fish for the camera quickly – never easy once you have a film crew on site and you are under pressure.

Well it certainly didn’t disappoint and we caught some beautiful, big very hard fighting fish in the time frame. But what really struck all of the crew was how absolutely beautiful the place is. It’s hard to put into words or even really do it justice on screen – it’s so tranquil and pretty and you just feel lucky to be there breathing it’s air. I think Graham, my business partner, and I decided we wanted to buy it there and then. We have both fished all types of water and venues all over the World, both pioneering and some with a few of the home comforts.

We had often talked about how very few places are really of a high standard in terms of the accommodation and the general amenities and the non fishing aspects. You either have great property but the fishing isn’t great. Or you have great fishing but the accommodation is tired and lacking in quality. In Chantebeouf we have found both a gorgeous venue, house and grounds and fishing beyond belief. We have something very special and we want a select few to get to share in its magic”.
