Chanteboeuf – Carl & Lyn Wood

News from the Lake in 2025
Carl Wood & Wife Lyn Return to Chanteboeuf
2nd August 2025
Back to Lake Chanteboeuf again after our last trip in 2022. I’ve been waiting a while to get back on this incredible lake and it certainly did not disappoint. The weather was hot but this didn’t seem to put the fish off. I didn’t get the rods out on the Saturday evening, I waited until Sunday morning and concentrated on watching the water with a cold beer for any signs of fish. It wasn’t long before a few fish gave the game away and told me where they wanted to be. So I cast a light lead out to where the fish were showing, put the line in the line clip, wrapped them round the distance sticks and clipped both my fishing rods to the 12.5 wraps to the spot. I decided to give them a small amount of free bait before I went to bed to gain their confidence and set my alarm for just before first light.
Up early and rods out just as the sun was coming up, mist hanging over the water, rods set and I couldn’t contain my excitement. The day passed uneventful but fish still showing near the spot which was a good sign. I pulled the rods in at 11pm and repeated the process of a bit of free food on the spot and went to bed.
Up again before first light, both rods back out on the spot and at 10.15am I had my first fish, a 59lb Mirror. This was the start of what was to be an amazing week and I ended up landing 14 fish to 84.12lb with several 50’s and a few 60’s, with the smallest fish weighing in at 42lb . What a trip and what a lake. Can’ t wait to come back…
